The number of people connecting to Internet is continues to rise daily. Internet users using credit card or paypal to do online transaction – like pay bills or buy goods. Some people completely unaware of the risks accessing the Internet or they simple ignore the threats that Internet poses.

Two things we must remember:

1. We know that Spyware, Adware, viruses, Trojans, Dialers, Web bug and Hackers are trying to find a way to get into our PC without user knowledge.

2. It is impossible to 100% protect our PC from Spyware, Adware, Viruses, Malware and Hackers.

We need to implement proper PC security on our computer, we are making the Internet a safer place to surf for everyone. What we can do is to follow these 7 basic steps to put as many obstacles in the way and put off the casual hacker for intruding our PC.

1. If you access Internet through a router, make sure you get a router with a built-in stateful firewall. This is to ensure the link between you and the Internet is safe.

2. You need to secure your Internet router by changing all the default setting come with the router, i.e. default setting for the admin password, user account and even the IP address of the router.

3. Secure your wireless network.

4. Install a personal firewall like the one from zonealarm on your computer. The firewall allows certain applications to access the Internet. If the firewall found out a suspicious application try to access the Internet, it may prompt you with a dialog and make sure it is ok to allow it to connect to Internet.

5. Install Anti-Virus software that has to feature to update the virus definitions daily on your computer. And scan your PC everyday.

6. Install Anti-Spyware software on your computer.

7. Keep up to date with the security patches for your Operating System.

So by following these 7 basic steps you will have a more secure computing environment.
